Welcome and happy September! How did we get here so quickly? Time has been flying by, for sure. I hope that these weeks of summer were good - refreshing, restoring, and energizing. I spent most of July traveling between family in the midwest and the south and most of August upstate with my three kids. Each summer, I learn so much about sitting in all that comes when I'm not always in control, when I'm in and out of my own space and comfort zone. I love my time with my family and look forward to it each year, and yet it still pushes me in a very real way to practice what I learn when I'm on the mat - mindfulness, compassion, patience and having a sense of humor. Finding ways to practice presence amidst all of the craziness is where we learn, and in these moments, I feel such gratitude for having the tools (not that I always use them correctly!) to be more intentional in my responses and interactions.
Now, as we move into the start of a new season, a new school year for some and a time where we turn in the free and easy unscheduled days of summer for new routines, projects, commitments and expectations, it can feel both exciting and overwhelming. There's a shift, and it can be difficult to know how and where to start. Mindfulness meditation teacher Jon Kabat-Zinn offers this reminder:
"Give yourself permission to allow this moment to be exactly as it is, and allow yourself to be exactly as you are."
May we dive into this time and new season with a present perspective being OK with what is . And may we be willing to start from where we are, not where we think we should be.
I'm really looking forward to seeing you again soon, teaching you yoga (see my schedule here), helping you find creative ways to feed yourselves well (read more about my nutrition/wellness services here), leading workshops, talking about parenting, life, balance and the list goes on. Thanks for your interest and support, and please don't ever hesitate to reach out.
